Between the Ossola Valley and the Lago Maggiore, kupitia Ulay crosses four valley systems, each offering its own authenticity:
The Val Grande, now a national park, in the center of this leg consists of one of the few Alpine valley systems abandoned to nature in the second part of the 20th century. The contrast to the Val d’Ossola, marked by transit and industrialisation, starting point in the south east , is tangible.
Val Vigezzo, north of the park, seems a land of wounders: Two rivers (or is it only one?) flowing down the valley to the east and to the west bearing the same name , a neo- byzantine basilica in the small village of Re, built only in 1958 and the view of one of the most spectacular railway lines in the Alps.
Between the canyon and sunny slopes until the shores of Lake Maggiore. Kupitia Ulaya crosses saddles and alpine meadows, offering views into the « Centovalli » (hundred valleys) villages below and discovers the artists’ colony « Monte Verità » and the city of Locarno at its descent to the northern shore of Lake Maggiore.
